When looking for “cheap” anything the best thing you
can do is to start calling every place that deals in
what you are looking for, and asking their prices. In
your case looking for a cheap car rental, you would
be more informed by calling any place that is listed
to rent vehicles, and talking to others around your
area.

If you are asking for people to give you ideas of what
a cheap rental could be, I remember renting a vehicle
for $7.95 per day, plus mileage of 15 cents per mile,
and I paid all the gas. That was a small car from
Budget Rent a Car just a few years back. That would
be a cheap price, but a place today would just have
to have an overabundance of unrented vehicles to give
you that kind of deal. Just ‘let your finger to the walking’,
and start calling, and talking.

you can get cheap rates from just about any car company, like Avis or Budget. A lot of the ‘cheap’ companies rate’s are lower than the big Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, because they do not include liabillity insurance, and you must have your own to rent from them.

What people dont realize and what the rental agents do not share with you are the little tricks you can use to get a lower rate, for example.

Costco, Bjs, Sam’s Club members can get discounts up tp 50% off standard rates, Frequent flyer members get discount rates, 50 year olds get senior rates, AAA members get discounts. Basically, any club or organization… (even the NRA) you have a membership to may give you a discounted rate…. And ask if the agent has any coupons.

I’d always recommend Hertz. Budget and Enterprise are also good.

There are tons and tons of cheap Motel 6’s in San Antonio. Also, try the Knights Inn Fiesta. Read the reviews though, cheap hotels are often not in the greatest place in town. You have many hotels to choose from, though, so choose wisely.
